
It is used topically for the treatment of all types of fungal infections like Tinea capitis, Tinea faciei, Oral thrush, Tinea barbae, Otomycosis, Tinea versicolar, Tinea corporis, Tinea mannum, Onychomycosis, Paronychia, Tinea cruris, Nappy rash, Vulvovaginitis, Tinea pedis, and for the treatment of Cutaneous candidiasis.
Tinea capitis: Fungal infection of the scalp.
Tinea faciei: Tinea or ringworm infection of the face, other than the bearded region.
Oral Thrush: Occurs in sick & weak infants, bottle feed babies, individuals in poor health characterized by the formation of dirty grey plaques (patch) on the tongue & the bucco-pharyngeal regions.
Tinea barbae (Barber’s itch): Infection of the bearded parts of the face & neck.
Otomycosis: This infection occurs in the external auditory canal of the ear and is characterized by severe pain in the ear, difficulty in hearing or deafness. The fungus, dark black in colour is seen growing on the wax in the ear.
Tinea versicolar: Most common during monsoon and in people who sweat profusely. Usually upper part of the trunk, upper part of the arms, the neck, forehead and cheeks are affected. Patches, which are brownish, greyish or a mixture of these colors characterizes this infection. Caused by Microsporum furfur.
Tinea corporis: A very common fungal infection, involving the exposed parts of the skin especially the non-hairy regions. Marked itching is a characteristic symptom.
Tinea mannum (Palmaris): It is a dermatophyte infection of the palmar and interdigital areas of the hand.
Onychomycosis: Ringworm of nails wherein the Tinea affects the free edges of the nails.
Paronychia: Inflammation involving the folds of tissue around the fingernail. Usually affects housewives, servants, waiters, and persons whose hands are constantly in water. Tinea cruris (Dhobi’s itch): Most common in the summer months. Fungus is conveyed to the inner side of the thigh region from infected nails, clothes, or W.C. seats. There are circular lesions and patients complaints of intense itching. Infection can also be transmitted during copulation.
Nappy Rash: Red, moist discoloration often produced in the napkin area of infants.
Vulvovaginitis: Occurs in malnourished children, women during pregnancy & delivery. An inflammation of the Vulva & Vagina accompanied by a purulent vaginal discharge.
Tinea pedis (Athlete’s foot): Fungal infection of the skin of the foot especially between the toes and on the soles. This infection is very common in summer & monsoon. The fungi responsible for this is Epidermophyton Floccosum.
ADVERSE EFFECTS
Local irritation, burning sensation, itching and Contact dermatitis (inflammation of skin caused by substances contacting the skin).
